Book editing for Rough Guides

I spent almost three years as an in-house editor for Rough Guides at Penguin Group. This involved editing full-size and mini format guides to various cities and countries, liaising with freelance authors and overseeing revisions, and working with in-house designers, picture editors, cartographers and typesetters. The picture shows a small selection out in the wild.

Proofreading for fourteen poems

I joined the fourteen poems team a few issues into their mission to bring contemporary queer poets to the fore. I continue to help out with copy editing and proofing their anthologies, as well as their range of pamphlets, each spotlighting a new poetic voice. My tetchy hyphen and en dash comments make everyone involved increasingly weary.

Blog content for TripAdvisor USA

I researched and wrote travel blog content for TripAdvisor USA, providing themed holiday inspiration and promoting TripAdvisor’s inventory of rental accommodation.

Co-author project: Rough Guide to Vintage London

Here's an excerpt of dining and shopping listings from the East London chapter of the Rough Guide to Vintage London. I co-authored this guide with some fellow retro fans to bring the best of the London vintage scene to our readers.

Co-author project: Essential Managers

In the peak of the pandemic, I co-wrote this edition of Essential Managers: Flexible Working (published May 2021 by Dorling Kindersley). It’s a beginner’s guide to things like remote working and people management at a distance, which was certainly topical at the time of writing…
